Better still, while we’re discussing bedding plants, now would be a good time to give them a feed. A fertiliser high in potassium applied once a week is ideal. Nothing fancy, just a good old tomato food.

Too chilly to drink red wine in the garden today. It is, however, a chance to plant the last of the bedding plants. Soil is nice and warm, little likelihood of frost and rain forecast for the weekend.
