In addition, the idea of acquiring DLG was always 'sold' to AV. Plc shareholders as 'DIVIDEND ENHANCING'.

Fishing...., surely you've got to add in the dividend pot from the acquired DLG business to the AVIVA Dividend pot which would cancel out the burden of 380m extra shares that were issued. Your reasoning does come across as rather negative to my mind.

Let's put things into perspective. Yesterday, the major part of the SP decline occurred over an extended period between 11:00 to 13:00 hours. This suggests that the reversal progressed over that period of time due to the snowball effect of stop/losses being triggered automatically, and not due to any underlying fundamental reason.

Now, at the current SP following yesterday's tree-shake, the forward dividend yield, as indicated on Stockopedia, is a princely 6.66%.

The notion that professional Shorters don't lose out If the underlying stock advances is ridiculous imv as any increase in value of the SP would surely be cancelled out by the loss incurred by holding the Short position. At best, they may break even or only suffer a small loss. Far better imv to be long and reap the full reward of the Turnaround without being shackled through simultaneously holding Short position/s. We shouldn't forget also that Short positions are normally time limited whereas owning the underlying Share means the serious investors can retain their position for as long as it takes for the Turnaround to mature and bear fruit.
