Iran says it has struck an oil tanker in the Gulf

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has targeted an oil tanker in the gulf that was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement shared on Telegram, it says an oil tanker under the name "Prima" was struck by a drone after "ignoring repeated warnings" issued by the IRGC Navy about the "prohibition of traffic" through the strait.

The IRGC adds it is not allowing oil tankers and commercial vessels "allied with hostile countries" to pass through the Strait.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most significant lanes for shipping energy, and about a fifth of the world's oil and gas passes through it.

The war in the Middle East has seen the shipping lane grind to an effective standstill, with the Iranian regime threatening earlier this week to "set fire" to vessels that attempt to go through.

Maersk suspends vessel crossings in Strait of Hormuz until further notice as overall traffic plummets

Danish shipping company Maersk said today it was suspending all vessel crossings in the Strait of Hormuz — the narrow channel between Iran’s southern coast and the northern tip of Oman — until further notice amid the “deteriorating security situation in the Middle East region.”

Maersk is one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, according to its website.

Have received multiple reports, external that vessels had received warnings of a closure of the Hormuz Strait.

Tasnim News Agency, an outlet affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, external), reports that the strategic Hormuz Strait - located in the south of Iran between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman - will be closed.

Tasnim quotes "sources" saying that ships are receiving messages from the IRGC saying that no ship is permitted to go through the Strait.
