If this helps anyone ! If RBS and Nat West had separate banking licences you'd get 2 times 85k government insurance, but back along " not sure now" if they had the same banking licences you'd only get 85k insurance rather thank 2 x 85k for same licences and deposits of 85k in each .

One can have a high account balance for a year up to 1m covered by the government only insured for one year such as inheritance probate stuff but after that it's 85k for each banking license, e.g . Barclays 85k Nwg 85k Lloyds 85k .

You have equivalently given your money to a man in the street , government insurance though is 85k = the government not the bank .

Hard up , legally I am correct . But it's not a very known fact .
