RE: Happy New Year5 Jan 2024 01:56
2023 ended with a bang for me. And 2024 started with a whimper,
I think I mentioned I fell into a hedge on a dog walk in the summer. I thought it was "vertigo" (BPPV) after looking down a those ultra thin poo bags, before tidying the ara and standing up. The world started spinnning around me and I'd fall gently to the left or backwards - happened a few times and I was worried about it happening on the motorcycle.
At 8am on New Years' Eve I woke uplate and went straight to the en suite , 12ft perhaps? Blimey - the bathromm started spinning at 100mph as I was about to sit on the loo, I fell to left on my back, and felt a stabbing feeling which pinned me to something that made no sense! Tle toilet seat? , a padded kitchen chair or a plastic bathroom wastebin which had moved under the chair?? Had o the rim of the bin but how???
I lay in bed until noon hoping my injured ribs would ease in pain that never came. Called 111 who sent a medic. I threw my keys out of the dormer window onto the lawn so he could let himself in! He did blood pressure checks etc and nothing was irregular except my painful ribs! Similar readings to the ones I measured for my GP a couple of weeks earlier.
He then had inspiration and asked me to stand for a final check! 163 psi whilst sitting. I stood and the vicious spinning came back! My pulse remained at 62 and my blood pressure dropped below a hundred ,a condition known as Postulation Drop!
He called for a ambulance and at 6:30pm I had arrived at Poole Hospital A+E , queued to be admitted and was attended by A+E staff , not Docs! By 8:30 pm I'd had a heart/chest x-ray, and a scan. I complimented the nurses on the speed of everything, a complete surprise to me , and my very pretty nurse said "but have even seen a Doc yet?".
Wheeled off to a ward-like storage area the Doc showed up at 3:30 am and I was admitted properley to the assessment ward.An osteopath checked my ribs and quickly ely found that my 9th rib was broken and requested an MRI scan.
9-12 on the left are all broken and I only got out late this afternoon and am safely home with Poppy.
I am chuffed with the outcome because I just have to take it easy when standing up and my motorbiking or driving should be safe. I was given a test today to be released. 140 psi dropped to 111 , stayed put in standing position with no spinning, and a second reading returned 111 again - nowhere near the drop to half the seated reading (would have been 70 psi) so happy days. Happy new year folks , like my BP , the only way is uo!
