I chickened out. Instead I bought 13k shares in Aviva at £56k. Paid £4.23.....now £4.21......so already showing a loss. I have a larger holding of Aviva. The plan for today's purchase was a quick in and out trade but keep my larger holding. I am not worried and if it doesn't happen it will at some stage before the ex-dividend date. I like JD though. I was bleary eyed yesterday reading back through their various trading statements/research. Lots of buys this morning but also some large sells, so I am not sure if this has bottomed out. The share may be a bit volatile until their March update is out of the way....then it will rocket one way or the other. I don't have the bottle anymore, lost too much money in the past going on gut instinct, now I am more cautious. Pays for the annual holidays.....

I sold Whitbread at £36.90 and made a couple of grand profit. This money is now burning a hole in my pocket. I also have a large holding of Aviva shares. I can sell now and my summer holidays are taken care of from the profits....but....they will rise as we head toward Ex-Div date. I want to get in to JD but I have never bought them before....whereas I have traded Whitbread and Aviva many times and I feel comfortable with them.

There seems to be lots of decent buys about. Where are all the shares coming from to fill these orders?

I was ready to purchase if they dropped back to £1.10. Looking at today's fall I am now nervous about making a purchase. I respect GMHK and his charting. I think you might have suggested a price of £1.07 if it falls below £1.10. Apologies if you didn't. This company has a a number of share splits a few years back, I detest companies that do this. We are probably safe at the moment from another split though. I have spent a lot of time reading over past trading statements. With their opening of new shops and completing the takeover of some businesses I still think that there has to be upside from here. But where is the bottom?

I know that these shares are tightly held but I have been trying to purchase a fair amount of these in recent times with no luck. Can anyone who has been following these shares give me an insight in to what is going on? Thanks

Just wondering how the Pfizer share sale of Haleon will affect the share price. Could these be sold in dribs and drabs and keep the price depressed for months or is it possible that one buyer could take the lot? I would imagine that many people who have Haleon after the GSK split may take this opportunity to offload their holding now. Any thoughts?

Thanks. I like these sort of posts. I held shares short time, medium term and long term. I watched shares drop and hoped they would recover but never did. I lost a bundle on Cattles, Bradford and Bingley, Marconi, Woolworth and others, too painful to think about these again. Some of these were in my long term portfolio.....never recovered. After 2008 I gave it up after losing most of it again.....then got back in when savings interest rates dropped to practically nil. Now I sort of trade short to medium term....days and months sort of thing. Because of my age now, I am not in this for the long term. I am happy to make a profit that will pay for my week in Spain or wherever...(I travel a lot). I get great satisfaction sitting in a Superior room with sea view in a nice hotel and saying to my wife.....Persimmon paid for this. I did it a few weeks ago in Spain and next week I will be doing it again in France......thanks to Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon and Whitbread.
I am actually enjoying the journey more doing it like this but I do have children struggling with mortgages etc and I know that doing things another way would help them in the long run.

Interesting. I have been making lots of £1000 profits which I am thankful for by sticking to a system that I have. However the dilemma I have is that by holding my shares a little longer I could be making a lot more money. Two/three weeks ago I bought Whitbread at c£28. Then sold them quickly when they went to £28.75. Today they are at c£31.50. If I had simply held them I would have made an extra £5k. My situation is that I have been trading shares since the 1980's and lost it all at the time of 9/11 and again around 2008. I don't have the time to do this a 3rd time so I am extra cautious now and take my profits as I go......and bank them.

Was there any indication of the possible buy out price?

I am still hopeful of getting in today or later this week if they drop below the £12. Well done to those who kept the 60p dividend and sold out today with only a 30p drop. Best of both worlds.

I would love to know why there has been a big move upwards in recent days.....it had been languishing for a long time?

What happens to someone if they have a short on Persimmon on the ex dividend date. How is this dealt with?

What the dividend goes Ex....what usually happens to the share price.......does it recover quickly after the initial fall?

If it drops below £12. I am considering making a substantial purchase.....the dividend is throwing me though. I don't like buying or selling around ex dividend time.

Also looking at Taylor Wimpey now that their dividend was recently paid.

I sold 3000 yesterday at £14.53 and they were grabbed. I thought that I was doing well until I saw the jump this morning. I wonder is it finally starting to move or is there some news about? I still hold another 3000 showing a decent profit. Might hang in there with this lot just to see what happens...

I have been watching these shares for awhile now. They don't seem to be going anywhere. Are there any followers of this share now who might give an overview of what the future might bring/ Thanks

Bought at £11.86 and out at £12.30. Pay for my week to Spain next week. Nice to get one now and again.

In this morning at £11.86. I have been watching them touch £12.12 and then back up again. Couldn't resist.
