Lot of redundancies before this makes a profit. Uncertain as to whether there would be micht co-operation from the trade unions

The real question is how profitable is the underlying business. Any business where the CWU is involved seems to have a problem.

If Marstons need to dispose of pubs they should consult the Methodist Church which has no trouble selling off its estate.Often a Parish council is involved which tends to smooth things.

No disrespect to the council but isn't that what everyone is doing. The UK has a track record of being really bad at shipbuilding.
