Yes it is possible to short sell during the NSE pre-market session. You can place an intraday (MIS) Short position in pre-market either at limit price or market price .

But you can use the pre market datas to get an idea of gap up/ gap down stocks and use them foe your day trades.
You can also follow STOPLOSS NSE to directly get access to the needed levels and stocks you should see in next day’s trade.
You can also understand the money management and plan of intraday trades to be profitable in trades and can help many more ppl with your views and experiences.
I wd not suggest you to ever average down these levels… what most ppl try to do.
