On the iron thing always makes me laugh when ppl talk about China "steel dumping". Chinese tax payers are subsidising steel and the rest of the world benefits from getting steel lower than market in exchange for worthless bits of paper. In the end they gave to do something with those bits of paper, we still have the steel. We benefit hugely as we don't have dirty industry and Chinese taxpayers are having to subsidise it. If China stop subsidising it prices will rise and this will be a flashing beacon for new entries in to steel production.

Poker good point but the world is awash with protectionism. There has been precious little free trade on planet earth since ww1 when government took control over a far larger proportion of capital. Since then we've had various versions of protectionism dressed up as free trade justified by nonsensical theirues like gravity trade. The theory that best describes trade is comparative advantage. Trumps tariff policy is foolish but it's very similar to the CU. Neither helps normal consumers, they are forced to subsidise things. There aren't many examples where protectionism has worked. As a small country it's obvious if we went free trade we would enjoy a significant advantage over all the other major economies who are still all tied up with protectionism for inefficient large busineses.

Look at what we are against. Here Cummings takes on the snakes, in particular the fool Andrew Tyrie. Look at the bile he gets for simply stating there really is no single market and it has a cost to us not any net benefit. Oh but he a fascist. I'm not surprised Macron is pushing this. France would be the only nuclear power in the EU post brexit. Militarily it would be a way to get more funding from the EU to France. In the long run if we are sensible much of the agricultural land could be returned to natural habitat if agricultural yields keep improving at current rate. That means less cap handouts for France. Therefore France is scratching around for ways to extract funds from Europe in the future. An army is one way.

I don't want to fund a European army. You can't build the tower of Babel without consent of normal folk. There is no mandate for a European army. It's borne out if a desire to match the USA which was the motivation behind the euro. I imagine it wouldn't be an effective fighting force anyway.
