Imo, this is even worse.

Spacing the rows as in the first link, so a tractor can squeeze in between just means twice as much land is covered and increases the costs. If Gov insist on filling fields with them, i would rather they were as densely packed as possible, minimising their impact.

Our climate isn't well suited to solar, so we already require more panels to create the same output as a country with a more amenable climate. Spacing the panels in rows means more countryside is spoiled and limits the land use over a greater area.

The system with small panels overhead on a gantry type setup has its uses, but with obvious drawbacks and limits. If Gov want solar, they should preference industrial roof space, whilst preserving as much countryside unspoiled as possible.

I just dont think people want to live amongst this infrastructure, the countryside is incredibly precious to many people.

I dont know how economic tidal is, but offshore wind, tidal, and nuclear sound like a good mix.

Rooftop solar only.

But we shouldn't trash our economy to go "green", render manufacturing uneconomic and impoverish the nation.

Our own efforts as regard the "climate emergency" are irrelevant. If we make an economically damaging transition - it's simply going to deter others - rendering our exertions pointless.

The subsidy payout is expected to increase with a record amount of wind farms set to come online this decade, potentially hindering efforts to deliver economic growth and push electrification.

The US taxes the oil and gas industry at 21pc - the same corporate rate as other industries, with a total effective tax take from offshore operations of around 40% and investment there are at an all time high. Tax rates in the UK on energy are 78% and investments are at an all time low.

The result of this strategy is that we import most of our energy from abroad. It is expensive. It leaves the UK strategically vulnerable as Europe discovered from its dependance on Russian supplies. It removes North Sea jobs from the UK economy. And it hinders growth in manufacturing.

Since production started, the equivalent to around 50 billion barrels of oil and gas have been produced, contributing about half a trillion in production taxes to the UK Treasury."

The likely consequence of a "climate catastrophe" - over which the UK has zero influence - is food shortages.

Perhaps Miliband might consider this before industrialising our countryside with solar panels, in one of the least efficient countries in the world in which to install such infrastructure.

It is estimated that in excess of 60% of the electricity used in China's solar panel supply chain is generated from coal.

But we can't make anything here - because energy intensive industry is effectively uneconomic due to out own net-zero rules.

“And that should be an epitaph of this ridiculous position the Government is in.”

Michael Shanks, an energy minister, said: “I want this House to be in no doubt that this government is absolutely committed to confronting and tackling modern slavery in energy supply chains.”

The Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice said: “There is overwhelming evidence that major producers and manufacturers have actively recruited and employed ‘transferred surplus [slave] labour’ from rural villages.”
