MINISTERIAL offices and homes in Westminster could be heated using burning rubbish under plans being considered by Ed Miliband.

The company behind an incinerator in east London has cleared a key hurdle in the planning process to introduce a scheme that would use waste to heat up vast amounts of water to be pumped around government departments and office blocks.

Cory Group plans to use industrial waste heat from its Riverside 1 incinerator, with a second plant under construction on the site due to be added to the scheme next year.

Please don't tell me "our patents give us an advantage".

I agree this could be make or break. I cannot see anything else in the near future moving the dial. The units are too small for large scale waste processing. An Avioxx deal would be a win win as the article makes clear SAF is a legal requirement and not readily sourced. Not selling out until this one is dead in the water....

Good luck everyone with the IPO. Are Beauty Tech products any good? Asking for a friend 😉. Appreciate it might be a little biased on here, and nobody is going to do a Rather. They are expensive products, but I am hoping those in the know think they are worth it. You have got to support a homegrown company that loyal to London market.

This is too technical for me, but from what I can tell Phillips 66 Limited has a multiyear supply agreement with British Airways to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) which is being produced at the Humber Refinery.

It's the only UK producer and it's SAF is from left over refinery products. Hardly a silver bullet to lower global emissions!

If waste can be saved from landfill and produce a saleable product, what's not to like?

Britain consumes about 11 million tonnes of aviation fuel a year. The Government has ordered airlines to use 10% of SAF by 2030. The door is ajar, come on Powerhouse.

Sorry DrAl, it's a slow news day/week. How's that work,with the lid missing, create more waste? Not picking holes just checking the logic. Waste yogurt hardly kills life on of our planet. The plastic definitely has an effect however you look at the impact. (Manufacturing/end of life).

It depends on your outlook if you are optimistic or not. It's slow going I appreciate that, also no reason for any waste companies to buy one. Either big outlay or just keep paying the landfill tax. I think a company like Avioxx ,if it succeeds is a win win. Paid to take waste, paid to offtake syngas for SAF. I am still optimistic of a buyer coming along.

Fair points Shipwreck. "Hype" was probably the wrong word. Without writing an essay with full appendix for every point, confusion occurs on these forums. I was referring to the talk of 30p. It could happen one day, but it's not going to skyrocket overnight. Buyers coming in now may have to wait for a rise, like those who have been here for several years. It's been played brilliantly by Rupert and others but investing always involves risks.

Over the moon with the recent share price rise. I would caution on comments about this being "under the radar". If I found it with no previous mining background, those in the know have cleaned up. Then as next lot of hype takes over we get in bubble territory. MRE will hopefully prove what we all are thinking and give another lift. Nothing being produced yet, but gold sale negates any near raises going forward. I can see Lynas swooping for offtake contracts or buy out. That's for next year and beyond. JMO.

Agree this is a problem, and UK governments cannot seem to sort many issues these days. My reason for holding is small scale projects, that can help in the real world (like Avioxx maybe). Plastic is not going away and most will not be recycled. Governments can only push companies so far before they just give up and shut down, if costs escalate.
