Think of this too so if your just about getting by on a wage of 25k a year what's it going to be like when you retire ? On less money ? State pension is a joke too .. I did the sums on my yearly bills with no frills shopping £7800 that's average yearly household Bill's £6240 our petrol bill for 2 cars is £100 a week maybe more and I'm retired ffs! Theres 20k straight away with out car servicing Bill's or car insurance our cash burn for basics or year is 24k so whats it going to be in 20 years time?

Pete add your wages up over 40 year you'll of made a million by retirement 25k times 40 years is a million and 25k a year isnt that much at today's value this is why a lot of retirees go back to work not enough money or boredom or both ..pete you must be making more than the busses now

Eviking a million is not much these days itd a grand a week for 20 years.. add nearly 20 years to to that and it would be something like 700k at today's value ...ben no worries and now you've said you're age pension as your main stay and an ISA and not one share in your isa like glencore but a mixed bag 20k in say 5 shares or more spread the risk as much as you can good luck ben

An income should say a poor one at that a million quid in an annuity would get you roughly 40k per year then your taxed on that

No annuity only guarantee an onco.e that's it a poor one £4000 single life for every 100k you have in your pension pot maybe ...so 4% if your lucky if you want joint life jesus they will just take the pi.ss

Ben I don't know how old you are but again eggs and one basket you need diversification try and get some property under your belt if you are young what seems expensive now will seem awfully cheap 30 years from now,you mentioned you have earned well then dont spend well now and suffer later on in life ...world will always need brickies...but if you get arthritis or any debilitating illness think of that, save while you can even easier now with the world the way it is good luck

Ben you will still need to pay NI ....SIPs you will have to do tbe work but the rewards could be far greater than a professional pension fund . Or not... it will depend on your picks you make a professional is privi to a lot of early info ...a nods as good as a wink so to speak which ever you choose also try to put lump sums into your pension get that pot to a good size for your retirement...
