Fleccy, I do agree that I was lucky enough to join a once state company and have now retired on a final salary pension. As it happens I was able to ‘escape’ a few years before my 60th with a 1 year leaver package, as they were targeting internal engineers of my grade and age group. I thought that the job was great for the most part and was constantly evolving which is the nature of the beast and I enjoyed the new challenges. It is still a great company to work for as compared to many others whether in the telecom sector or other wise. My point however, in my option of course, is that if it wasn’t for the seemingly rudderless navigation of the business by higher management over many years and the disastrous foray into BT sport etc then it could be an even better company. I am hopeful though that the current heads will come up trumps and with the full fibre and 5G roll outs and and maybe a softer stance from OFCOM things will improve dramatically. I understand of course that buildings whether operational exchanges or back office etc will have to close/consolidate, and I have already seen this during my career although on relatively small scales. These will bring massive cost savings in the years to come.

Yes I agree, as a former BT engineer myself who, along with countless others, did have a genuine fondness for the company and did do our best to get things sorted. I have been retired for more than 10 years now and appreciate that things have changed, but it was genuinely like a big family when I worked there from the early seventies. We were frustrated by the poor decisions made at the top and can’t believe that the company still seems to lurch from one crisis to the next. This once great company is, sadly in my opinion, a shadow of it’s former self. I am however ever the optimist and am hopeful one day to see £3 a share again which will put me back on an even keel.

135 will put me at break even. Compared to £3 for my considerably larger holding in BT. Here’s hoping!

Totally agree. It’s about time that BT flexed it’s muscles and told Ofcom and the leeches to back off and let it make a reasonable return on it’s massive investments.
BT was privatised 36 years ago for goodness sake. Beats me why every man and his dog seems to think that it is still owned by the Crown!
