Curiously, on the same day as the Coal fired qualification, Tanesco invited an identical invitation for Large Solar Projects, also for completion 2018-20. Perhaps we are reading too much into this and the programme is not specific to Kibo but a wider general tender process for power generation. On the other hand it could be an attempt to provide a direct comparison between coal and solar - proving or other wise the assessment of power mix in the Master Plan. Anyone know of a large scale Solar project at the same advanced position as MCCP? Note the same wording on "concept note or MOU"

Invitation for Qualification (IFQ)
This Invitation for Tender follows the intention of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through Tanzania Electric Supply Company Ltd (TANESCO) to competitively engage qualified applicants to develop Solar power projects with a total capacity of 150MWp at different locations within Tanzania.
TANESCO intends to procure power generation from a set of solar photovoltaic (PV) based power projects with total capacity of up to 150 MWp in Dodoma, Singida, Shinyanga, Mwanza, Simiyu and Iringa Regions between years 2018 and 2020.
TANESCO is, therefore, pleased to present this opportunity to prospective developers to undertake feasibility study, finance, build, own, operate and transfer solar power projects of not less than 20 MWp. Note that no more than SOMWp capacity shall be connected in one substation.
Tendering will be conducted through international Competitive tendering procedures specified in Regulation 1 of the Public Procurement (Regulations Government Notice 446 of2013), and is open to all Applicants as defined in the Regulations. Prospective developers who have earlier expressed their interests to develop solar power projects by way of concept note, MoU or any other form and have submitted documents to TANESCO are advised to participate in this tendering process.
