Addressing participants during the signing of the construction agreement between the government and Egyptian firm Arab Contractors - the proposed project operator - President John Magufuli said the current power tariffs were high and unaffordable to majority of Tanzanians.
"The current power tariffs, which are priced at 7 US dollar cents per unit, are very expensive," he said.

The project, which is located nearly 200km west-south of Dar es Salaam, is financed through direct funding by the Government of Tanzania and is expected to become operational by April 2022.

I'm sure Gillie can correct me but the current price of power in Tanz is 10c pkwh (https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Tanzania/electricity_prices/)
Is the fear of Magafuli's wrath so intense that he is being given completely false information on the price of power (which might explain why the PPA has gone no-where) and how long it takes to construct and fill a 131m high dam

Yes we would all like the juicy info but the above points to LC activity responding to TG prevarication over the past few months. Don't know what else we could ask for from Kibo. The price drop is the same across the market - if no earth shattering news - down it goes. IMO fundamentals of my investment remain.

Thank goodness for some business related posts. The bile, bitching and backbiting on this board adds nothing. Like many others I'm seriously in a theoretical loss but that's what it is - theoretical. I choose to hold not sell which is the same choice everyone has.
Please - lets get back to sharing research and fact based opinions. If you can't then go somewhere else and kick their cat
I continue to believe that the tender has nothing to do with MCPP and the SML/PPA are in progress at GoT pace ie snail but still very much alive and will come off.
Friday will be a non-event imo - its an opening of pre-qualification respondents so all that might come out of it is how many have been submitted and perhaps the names.
Personally I don't believe the qualification process is about MCPP - its based around 150MW units in various parts of the country and all we may find out on the 19th is how many companies responded and perhaps which ones. News I'm waiting for is SML and PPA.
PRESIDENT John Magufuli yesterday received credentials of five new ambassadors, encouraging them to attract more investors from their countries to invest especially in the energy sector.

There will be those that sell out early but I will reassess Kibo and the timelines when the news arrives - for me there will be a completely different complexion. If the news is negative then that also is different ball game.
Curiously, on the same day as the Coal fired qualification, Tanesco invited an identical invitation for Large Solar Projects, also for completion 2018-20. Perhaps we are reading too much into this and the programme is not specific to Kibo but a wider general tender process for power generation. On the other hand it could be an attempt to provide a direct comparison between coal and solar - proving or other wise the assessment of power mix in the Master Plan. Anyone know of a large scale Solar project at the same advanced position as MCCP? Note the same wording on "concept note or MOU"

Sorry all, just read through again (should always do this instead of scanning).
The process is "Invitation for Qualification" not an RFQ. Probably won't make any difference to the outcome because, as JD states, who else is in a position to be up and running in a couple of years
