RE: From RR to GE21 Nov 2024 10:38
In recent developments, multiple airlines have begun transitioning their Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleets from Rolls-Royce’s Trent 1000 engines to General Electric’s GEnx engines. British Airways, for instance, has ordered six GEnx-powered 787s, marking a shift from its current fleet of 41 Trent 1000-powered Dreamliners. Similarly, LATAM Airlines has placed orders for ten GEnx-powered 787s, moving away from its existing 37 Trent 1000-equipped aircraft.
This trend is largely attributed to the GEnx engine’s superior fuel efficiency and reliability. General Electric reports that the GEnx-1B engine powers two-thirds of the 787s in service and offers a 1.4% fuel burn savings compared to its competition. Airlines are also considering the operational challenges associated with the Trent 1000 engines, including supply chain issues and maintenance concerns, influencing their decision to switch to GEnx engines.
