Ah the classic, 'I can't bear to hear any bad news about the stock I'm invested in, so I'm just going to bury my head in the sand and hope you all go away'......
You only have to look at AIG (which fell 30% yesterday) to see the writing on the wall.
And at least you can get off a plane when it lands......
I saw 6 off Rotterdam about 10 days ago.
The ship needs to generate electricity for the crew so hence the need to run the engines.
Main engines use the dirtiest fuel around, High Sulphur Fuel oil with 3.5% sulphur, although some ports are now demanding that they run LSFO (1%). It's not much to ask, the difference is usually less than 10$ per tonne.
Mohammed, there are people on here that are very bullish this stock, and others that are very bearish. You just have to look at all the data and facts and make your own mind up.
If you can't do that, you shouldn't really be invested here. A casino would be a better bet.
But you cannot force your crew to be vaccinated.
I know these companies treat their staff like **** but you cannot fire them just because they refuse to vaccinate. That must be breaking some kind of employment law.
And let's just remind ourselves - there is no vaccine yet anyway.
From the Guardian...
Germany will not take shortcuts in the race to develop a vaccine against Covid-19, its research minister has said,
“Even when the world is waiting for a vaccine – we won’t take risky short-cuts here,” Anja Karliczek told a news conference in Berlin. “We will not deviate from this line in Germany or in Europe. And I also believe that all countries should proceed in this way globally.”
She also repeated her assertion from July that she does not expect that a vaccine will be broadly available until the middle of 2021.
True - Cnvl had to borrow at very high levels as the risk of default is so high. So any future income will be used to service these debts. They are caught in a spiral.
Also, today's papers said that MSC had finally allowed it's workers (mostly from Mauritius) to leave the ships after 6 months on board with no pay. No sure how Carnival is treating theirs......
Maybe try to respond to some of my points?
Any other great 'feel it your bones' share tips? I could use the advice.
Great post? I haven't seen such a confused, badly written post in ages.
First error; There was no 'recession' prior to COVID. Almost all countries in the world were in growth. Only now is there recession.
Second error, demographics. Read this paragraph from the cruise association;
According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Global Passenger Report, the average age of cruise passenger was 46.7 years old – holding steady from the previous two years. However, 40 to 49-year-olds make up only 15% of all cruise passengers for that year. This is probably due to a handful of families with small children lowering the average age. The median age was between 60 and 69-year-olds, with a full 19% of cruisers falling under this demographic.
Third error; the audience for cruise passengers is through the roof. What does that even mean? Suddenly loads more people are thinking of cruising? I don't think so.
Fourth error; belittling job losses. Of course there are queues to work on cruise ships. But unemployment has risen and will rise more dramatically worldwide. The point being that people have less to spend, and
Fifth error; no you can't put it on the credit card because banks are scared of default now and are restricting lending.
It's not de ramping, it's called realism.
On the bright side, if an effective vaccine does come out ad cases worldwide drop to negligible with almost no deaths, THEN Carnival could recover. But in 2021? I just don't see it.
So Alyhels, your plan is that everyone taking a cruise has to be vaccinated or they won't be allowed on?
Even IF a vaccine is available, the last poll I saw said that 50% at least would not take it, so you just ruled out 50% of your customer base.
What about the crew? You cannot force them to take the vaccine, so the whole plan falls down right there.
And even then, the vaccine won't be 100% effective, so you might still get some cases on board.
The best outcome I see for Carnival is to sell their boats off as ferries.
UK is either already or will soon be above infection rates in the European countries it imposed quarantine on.
Would be kind of funny to see it imposed in the other direction now....
IMO, a vaccine will not be available this year.
Far better to have on the spot testing - apparently there is a test that gives an immediate result.
If that can be deployed then flying should be reasonably safe (well it already is 'safe'), but not for the fear stricken amongst us.
'Vaccine to start'
What does that mean?
IAG (BA) are down 29% this morning, so it's not helping them.....
Maybe Summer 2022 will be back to normal, but the question is, can Carnival survive that long?
Agree wholeheartedly with MrMagic.
I have flown on Easyjet in Europe recently and the flight was almost empty and the whole mask thing was very unpleasant.
I have no fear of COVID, but millions do, especially the over 60's, the prime cruise market.
So a) there is very little appetite to go on a cruise given that you would have to wear a mask everywhere all the time and the main customers are very fearful of catching COVID
and
b) if a case IS detected, it's chaos all over again; whole ship locked down, refused entry at every port. So no one can get off and the virus spreads quickly throughout the ship.
Who on earth would subject themselves voluntarily to all that?
I am long Easy, so have an interest in seeing it rise, but i just don't see any good news on the horizon...no vaccine this year and a strong reluctance to travel due to virus and moreso quarantine fears.
Pointing this out should not see me labelled a 'deramper'....
Down 7%, but Ryanair flat. Any particular reason?
On EZ flight now from Amsterdam to Palma.
Maybe 30 passengers.
About 55 on way out. I.e. loss making
On outward flight i fell asleep and was woken brusquely by steward telling me my mask had slipped off my nose.
Later, as i dozed off again, mask slipped very slightly below nostrils. He told me i was now on a ‘final warning’. Ridiculous. What are they going to do, divert the flight?
I asked why most passengers had been clustered togethr near the back of the plane, with less than 2m distance if he was so worried about the virus, to which he had no answer, then cobbled together the usual crap about aircraft balance.
So basically, not a pleasant experience that I won’t be rushing to repeat.
It's up 6% one day, down 5 to 7 the next.
The market just can't make it's mind up on this one....
