One of the reasons that the appeal succeeded against IM ,was that it was deemed that because gas is a fossil fuel, the plan breached govt policy. An easy way around that it to promote another plan string hydrogen. This would then support Govt policy. See below.

Although gas storage is essential , apparently its not forward looking enough or trend. So, what is both forward looking and trendy, Hydrogen. I havent seen any reason why a new licence can not be applied for, for Hydrogen storage at IM.

I never believed that HARL would run the project and was always in favour of selling the asset post a successful CR.

By applying for Hydrogen storage it takes away the whole appeal case because hydrogen would not be seen by the Trendies in the political parties as Controversial. The application should also be approved by The Executive.
