''HMRC have a computer system (called - connect) which flags up peoples spending and life style against their declared income. Chances are you might get caught out - once they have you in their radar - they are like a dog with a bone. While their system is presently definitely focusing on people-on-benefits ,,, it can be turned onto anyone and everyone''.
Yes, but I knew a pos who fleeced the system in a huge way (he always will) and he got a tax enquiry, 3 months later they give up and moved on.
I have had Three tax enquirys and the first one lasted for Two years, my financial life was looked into using a magnifying glass, the stress was unreal, we were videoed to see what jewellery we wore etc and every receipt was questioned and some legit ones refused, after the time these vile creatures wanted £64k of me (this was 20 years ago btw) my business was as honest as it could be, so I told them, Fub yer all, I will take this to court myself and fight yer, then I was told pay £1,620 and we will end it WTF!!, so I said FUB yer I am innocent, then they said ok do you want us to look into yer house extension work, so I folded as was worn out and paid the 1,620.
