Sorry TomE, my memory was at fault - I have checked back and it was Tiggerman who had seen the Countryfile programme and had thought that ex-Sirius shareholders were missing out. In fact we have missed 'owt.
Hi Gertfrobe.
I suppose that I could say that I am well, but I appear to be susceptible to getting cancer. I had prostate cancer about 12 years ago, and then both liver and lung cancer about 5 years ago, and in the last ten months I have had two small operations to remove cutaneous horns (caused by exposure to the sun when young) on my left arm and right ear. I now have only one and a half lungs so I easily get short of breath. Apart from that the good news is that none of the cancers are connected with any of the others, so none have spread.
Thanks for your advice re cutting and pasting, but I still couldn't do what I wanted to do so I asked my brother in Australia for his help.
He advised me to highlight the required text via ctrl and C, then move to the Post a Message space on this board, and then use ctrl and V, and hey presto here is the message from ShareSoc.
We appreciate it has been a while since we have been able to provide an update regarding our investigation into the potential to make a claim or claims for legal redress for Sirius Shareholders.
We are currently continuing to pursue a line of investigation, following legal advice, however, unfortunately this is an extremely time-consuming process and at this stage, regrettably, there is nothing substantive that can be shared.
We would, however, like to reassure you that we are working extremely hard in the background and the possibility of a claim remains in review. As soon as we have any update that we are able to share, we will do so.
With thanks for your patience and ongoing support.
Kindest regards,
The ShareSoc Team.
Tiggerman at 14.28. I guess that the Countryfile programme was at the mine owned by ICL, an Israeli company, at Boulby which is just a few miles north of Sirius's Woodsmith mine. They have been mining polyhalite for quite a few years, and they are able to say that they are the only people in the world who are mining it. From what I have read in the press I am fairly certain that Anglo American are still creating the shafts down to Sirius's polyhalite, so please don't think that you are missing some benefit from Sirius.
If John McEnroe had been presenting the programme he could have said "You cannot be Sirius".
J. Barnum at 19.54. Sorry for the delay in replying - I have not been reading the board this evening until now.
I was referring to the 13th edition of the UK Takeover Code issued on 5th July 2021 and last amended on 13th June 2022.
I have to admit that I had overlooked the possibility that the Australian Code might not be the same as the UK Code.
The point that I was making was that (in the UK) the Opening Position Disclosure documents need to be issued no later than 10 business days after the commencement of the Offer Period. The time taken to perform due diligence is not relevant.
Can someone please let us know what the Australian Takeover Code says (if anything) about the timing of the issuing of the Opening Position Disclosure documents.
Everyonesawinner at 17.03 says "All will be revealed as they carry out due diligence for the sale".
I think that all must be revealed within the next fortnight. Page C15 of The Takeover Code says that the Offer Period will commence when the first announcement is made of an offer or possible offer for a company. I think that yesterday's announcement that Newmont have appointed various businesses to advise them about a possible offer for Newcrest would be deemed to be the commencement of an Offer Period.
Page E21 of the Code says that an Opening Position Disclosure document must be issued no later than 10 business days after the commencement of the Offer Period by anyone holding 1% or more of the shares in the offeror or offeree company. I imagine that anyone holding more than 1% of Greatland's shares would be required to disclose their holding in Greatland because it is connected with Newcrest.
If anyone knows that my interpretation of the Code is incorrect please say so.
Hi Gertfrobe.
Thanks for reproducing ShareSoc's email on here. Please let me know how you did that.
I hope that you are keeping well. I thought about you a couple of days ago. My wife and I were treated by our best friends to Saturday and Sunday at Tyddyn Llan at Llandrillo between Corwen and Bala. In view of your father's help at the Aberfan disaster I assume, perhaps wrongly, that you still live in South Wales, but being in mid-Wales made me think of you.
Hi Fred and David.
I have just received an email from ShareSoc saying that they are working on a possible case and asking us to continue to be patient.
Fred - I have forwarded it to your email address. If you know how to publish ShareSoc's email on here please do that so that David can see it too.
I seem to recall that we established on this board about a year ago that Greatland could not possibly qualify for exemption from Inheritance Tax until it had started to produce gold or copper. In view of the fact that an ASX listing is very likely before the first extraction of gold or copper I think that we can say with some certainty that Greatland will never qualify for Business Relief.
Hi Fred.
Yes, still here. Happy New Year to you and to all those who wait patiently to see whether anything comes from ShareSoc's endeavours.
Bamps - you spoilsport! Markjph at 11.01 says that Firetower looks to be an area of outstanding beauty, and you then show a signboard pointing to a track to Wombat Poo - it doesn't sound very attractive to me. I am not putting that down on my "to do" list. Bucket list perhaps!
Dip666 at 13.29 - you have reminded me of something I heard in 1956 when I was on the audit of Fodens, the lorry manufacturers in Sandbach, Cheshire. Edwin Richard Foden, a member of the Foden family, started ERF on a neighbouring site and installed an advertising board along the main road saying "ERF, makers of the finest lorries in Sandbach". Fodens took ERF to Court and ERF were instructed to remove the advertisement because it was clearly an unwarranted attack on Fodens. The next day a new advertisement went up saying "ERF, makers of the finest lorries in the World", and that was allowed because it was just "puff" and not specifically attacking Fodens.
I am with Barclays. I phoned them, quoted my ID on their system, mentioned the Greatland GM, and asked them to vote all of my shareholding in favour of all five resolutions. The man I spoke to confirmed everything verbally. I didn't ask him to confirm in writing, and I suggest that you ask him to send you a message confirming that he will ensure that your votes will be actioned in time for the meeting.
Hi Strudel.
Yes I have met Bamps at The Stag on the River, twice at Stroud, and at America Square in July where I also had a short chat with you and Magic Trades.
I am always interested in learning from Bamps.
Yesterday Greatland owned 30% of Havieron and, as a result of an agreement made some years ago, the possibility that today it would only own 25% but would be receiving $60 million in exchange for 5%.
Today Greatland still owns 30% but will not receive $60 million.
It has kept 5% and foregone $60 million.
That places a value of only 20 x $60 million on the whole of Havieron = $1,200,000,000.
In the circumstances that 5% looks to me like a good deal for Greatland.
