The easiest way to understand this share is that at present, for every £1 you invest you are receiving approaching 20p per year back in dividends.

I’ve seen various well structured posts explaining how the cash will steadily roll in and we should soon have a good buffer. That’s nice, but are there any significant risks which could derail the project? I’m assuming probably not, but are there any plausible candidates? Do most wells behave as expected and ramp up nicely, or are they likely to be temperamental?

Yes, shares are consolidated by a factor of 20, so eg. 1000 become 50, but we would then expect the share price to increase by x20 and the dividend to also be increased by x20.

I’ve previously confirmed that Interactive charged stamp duty when I bought DEC for my SIPP. I’ve now looked back and can also confirm the same applied to my ISA purchase (before I sold it again)

I’m becoming more informed as time passes, but I wonder how many small investors (don’t) realise there are these differences between the (withholding) tax treatment of ISA & SIPP, or the fact that stamp duty isn’t charged on AIM or some? international trades, or that sometimes there’s no WHT at all, as I think applies to my BHP divi coming out of Australia.

Hi, I can confirm that Interactive are (as expected) charging stamp duty on DEC share purchases within a SIPP.

I will be interested to see how buying costs stack up for the new USA listing once it’s up and running, as I’m already receiving DEC dividends in dollars within the SIPP.

I can also confirm that DEC shares in interactive investor SIPP are not having withholding tax deducted unlike similar DEC shares in the ii ISA. I’ve now rotated some holdings from ISA to SIPP and expect to “save” about £50 a year over 4 years for every £1000 invested as the 20% yield won’t be taxed down to 17% as it would have been if left in the ISA.

Hi, not trying to take sides here, but isn’t the idea that the SIPP has a tax boost of 20% (standard rate) or even 40% (higher rate tax) when invested?

So in the SIPP case you start at £1200 and compound at 20% for 5 years to arrive at £2986. Then 25% tax free is £746. Balance of £2240 taxed at 20% is £1792 so total via SIPP option is £2538.

I suggest that for DEC shares the main difference between the SIPP and ISA approaches is the loss of 3% of the yield (via 15% withholding tax of 20% yield) in the ISA method.

It’s horses for courses though, depending upon your overall objective & tax profile.

Hi, the debate around divis from ISA being tax free versus taxed from SIPP (but tax-free boosted at original contribution) is perfectly valid. My original observation was that the payout per share arriving into my ISA was reduced by about 15% in the case of DEC when compared to my SIPP. And because the yield is so high, the difference is significant.

Where the withholding tax take is not relevant I certainly see the value of holding high yield shares in the ISA, although personally I mainly lean towards possible high growth shares in the ISA to stay tax-free should one of them shoot the lights out.

Thanks, so on a £1000 investment yielding current 19.2%, I’m losing £29 per year in my ISA, but some will be £58 down if they’re with one of those btokers owned by banks. I say SIPP SIPP Hooray for no deductions!

Just an observation. I picked up a few DEC shares this summer split between an ISA and SIPP both with Interactive. Looking at the September divi payment I got about 3p in the ISA and 4.37c per share in the SIPP (equivalent to about 3.5p). That’s about 15% difference, which I assume is something to do with the withholding tax treatment and of course my SIPP divi is in $$ before conversion costs, but I just thought I’d flag up this anomaly again as I’ve now seen it first hand.

The point being that 15% of the divi has evaporated from the ISA, so maybe favour your SIPP, all other considerations being equal.

0.1% or 1/1000 of the company now costs about £8000. After today’s dilution you would need to spend another £350 to maintain 0.1%. Interesting times.

The FAB holding is down by 1.44% of the company or 2.62M shares worth £105K if priced at 4p each. If TB has £200K of CLN’s to convert, that’s roughly half the wriggle room needed. I assume that CLN’s can only be converted if there’s headroom below the maximum allowable number of TB/FAB shares. Presumably if they’re converted then we get to know sharpish.

Over the last year the steady buybacks have taken about 6 million shares out of circulation and stashed them in treasury. SP has in that time gone from 250p briefly to 300 and then slowly back down to 150, so assuming an approx average cost of 225p that’s cost them about £14M. At end June 2023 they had cash & equivalents of £350M and a stated annual running cost of about £72M (from memory). The market cap today is £425M.

I don’t think they will run out of money anytime soon.

Interactive Investor gives this share an uncertainty rating of Extreme! I think that’s fair.

Regular poster Trek has been pointing out for months that this is a fairly tightly held stock and that when the bond train finally leaves the station that the tickets to be aboard will be very hard to come by and will only be being sold at increasingly higher prices until an equilibrium develops.

What’s most interesting to me here is just how fast it’s moved without any actual official confirmation of the bonds. atb

What I can’t get my head around is how Mr TB as CEO can ever be in a position where he is not privy to insider info and hence restricted as to how he trades, unless we assume that on the morning that the results are published, we all know as much as him and so he would be free to trade then. atb

I’ve had my calculator out again. At 3.8p per share you can now buy 1/1000th of the company for £6924. Nice! atb

Hi, I typed “Thungela dividend 2023” into Google. Answer is 41.22p per share on October 9th. Amazing what you can find out using the internet!
