Aslo the shipping routes North are frozen in the Winter, so more difficult as they have less ships to break the ice, hence why maybe the supplies will slow down in Winter, thus a higher price and more demand for domestic supplies.

The extension has been put on hold purely because of cheap Russian imports in my opinion, that fed into the 2024 elections nicely aswell with cheap fuel, its good for election campaigns especially the existing administration trying to get re-elected, maybe people dont understand that, maybe its my experience of how the developing world think and operate as i have lived there (not India). The elections were in June this year (when prices were at their lowest point) and now the prices are going back up again and Russian imports are getting less i would imagine due to American sanctions on companies and the Ukraine are attacking Russian fuel storage and facilities, plus the Houthis are attacking ships in the Red Sea. Just my opinion.

We could also argue that the USA held back with sanctions on Indian companies importing Russia gas (LNG) until after the June elections as to not upset the diplomatic apple cart. Just a thought.

Also we can factor in the Indian Elections which were in June 2024, coincidentally the lowest fuel prices too.

Oh and by the way, Coal cant be sent through pipes, sorry just my failed attempt at humour. Their population is obviously compounding as is demand for energy. India´s population is expected to rise by 200 million by 2054 by some estimates, so i cant see demand for gas falling any time soon.

Imports of gas must have effected price and domestic demand which is shown by the price coming down and demand slowing since Russia invaded the Ukraine 2022- 2023, you can see it on the chart, since the Ukraine have started attacking Russian oil and gas assets and the USA imposing more sanctions of companies that are helping Russian oil and gas exports, the price has been rising. Coincidence?

Also i believe coal is also used to fuel power stations in India, from what i have been reading. I would imagine that gas is used for cooking, restaurants etc, as coal just isnt viable for that, the place would stink and have terrible smog.

Just to add i am definitely blaming this on cheap Russian imports that have lowered gas prices and demand from domestic suppliers. I think that is now changing, as we have seen gas prices are now rising in India, that has to be cause and effect.

Cuts both ways, i have lived in a tropical country and personally used more gas in the Winter than i did in the summer, as i used it to heat my house, as electricity is more expensive for heating and i cooked more hot food too as the cold weather induces hunger as we burn more calories in colder weather to stay warm, but fair enough if the Power stations are burning gas. Still doesnt change anything i said, but i take your point. It depends if personal consumption is lower than power station consumption.

Gas demand will be rising for the winter, Russia is in a war and the Ukraine are blasting their gas storage facilities in the black sea and in Russia, so i would imagine supplies are running lower, coupled with the fact that winter is coming. I would imagine Indus are coming out of their maintenance phase (as discusssed on here) as India needs gas and i would also imagine that gas prices are rising as a result of these supply and demand factors, as demand is high and supply is lower. (Winter in India from Decemember to February) so they must be gearing up for that. Another factor is that the USA has been putting sanctions on companies in India that trade with and help Russia in Oil and Gas this year.
