RE: LFT vs PCR8 Mar 2021 07:56
LFT isn't a replacement for PCR. The Gov aren't saying "sack off PCR tests, we'll base our whole Covid response on LFT now". PCR is still the "go to" test and lockdowns are the world is unlikely to be opened up off the back of LFT tests.
LFT serve a purpose as part of mass testing and helping keep some of the most infectious people at home. If you get a negative LFT it doesn't mean you don't have Covid, it just means you continue abiding by the other measures in place. If you return positive, you get a PCR test to validate. It helps people make more informed decisions and helps to reduce the spread. Knowledge is power.
Anyone claiming "I've taken an LFT test and tested negative so can hug my granny / lick a stranger now" is missing the point. Sadly I suspect a lot of people will see it this way.
Just my opinion, DYOR.
