@Nathan90
Because they are defending their sovereignty, not actively looking to kill or maim innocents
That is the sort of mindset which would result in WW3 and, probably, a Nuclear Winter (if the later happens I would rather one of the bombs lands in my garden then see the devastation that would result on me & my family)
Accountancy Firms Leaving is one thing - the reality is the Russian Dept is probably quite small in comparision to it London Base (London Being a Financial Hotbed)
Totally different to the industry Poly is in
Likewise, McDonalds, KFC, Costa, Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc - will they really fully exit a market? No, even if Putin remains post conflict, money talks - unless the West basically puts up a new economic Iron Wall, which IMO will be detrimental to long term peace, since these sanctions should only be short term, anything longer then the opposite effect of what the west is 'apparently' trying to achieve will happen, in that the Russian Population will start to turn against the West rather than Putin
UK Government, notably the Tories, are reliant on funds from a range of international backers - Russian, Chinese, Middle East, etc.
Most of the backers will have investments within the UK and on the LSE, otherwise why back the Tories?
The Tories will know this, so it is actually hugely damaging to them in the long run if they are seen by others to bite the hand that feeds them
However, the government also has to have seen to have done something regarding RA, so went in hard on sanctions to do so, but if they want to maintain those backers confidence then ultimately will need to be seen as political posturing or as soon as peace talks conclude, if peaceful outcome, will be listed
The Risk Though, is USA tries to do a full on economic grab and the Tories have a range of new US Backers (Rishi Sunak and Pharma noted), then they may think can dump on those backers from China/Middle East
Just my two pennies worth on it
I am actually relaxed about it all, nothing can do ultimately
However, the process is totally wrong, beyond EVR, which is something everyone should point out
For example, with UK Govt banning Bitcoin Cash Points it may not be wise to invest in anything Bitcoin in UK, them may be next - to protect investors!
SmallPenguin
I think you are missing the big picture issue, in between bashing EVR
The sanctions on EVR has been triggered by belief, not facts - "potentially" "may"
This has resulted in the FCA taking action
Who is to say the government wont, at a whim or on public opinion, especially with new legislation in place, say similar things about future companies
It is far from a well governed free market
And has stated, what happens if it comes out that RR provided Jet Engines to Russian Military the days before the invasion, so helping Russia invade, will RR get sanctioned because they helped Russia ----- where does it stop
Ignore RA, he is a 30% shareholder whose assets have been sanctioned
The only winner in all of this is US Steel Industry, Steel Prices Up, Car Prices Up, etc etc etc!
Writing to your MP to point out that it is wrong to suspend companies on a whim, or on a belief is something everyone should be doing - especially if you like your pension!
So much for Global Britain, be 51st state soon
Yes I am not expecting any response from it, other then standard response - just worth pointing it out.
Also worth seeing how responsive your MP is and attitude to your own position
Plus it almost guaranteed that there were people within government who knew about this 'tank' comment and traded it like mad before the statement was issued
If that is truly the objective then it is reasonable to do so if Accurate and Correct, however, if a company is being suspended because it MAY have POTENTIALLY, a lot of vagueness and guess work, then lets sanction McDonalds because it MAY have PROBABLY fed a soldier on his way to the barracks to prepare to kill someone.
It is reasonable for any one to look to defend their assets and ultimately your MP is voted in to support your interest's as well as the countries
If unsure where to go

TO ALL IF CAN JUST KEEP BUMPING THIS TO TOP SO PEOPLE AWARE OF IT AND DOESNT GET LOST IN ALL THE OTHER STUFF
Dear "NAME"
You will be aware of sanctions placed against Roman Abramovich, in light of the awful Ukraine/Russia Conflict.
When the UK Sanctions List was updated on 10 March 2022, by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the relevant Notice issued by the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, the assets that Roman Abramovich held were immediately frozen.
The rationale of these sanctions was because Evraz Plc 'MAY', through their steel manufacturing process, 'POTENTIALLY' supplying steel to the Russian military, which 'MAY' have been used in the production of tanks.
There was no certainty in these statements or absolutes.
However, further implications of this sanction was for The Financial Conduct Authority ("the FCA") to temporarily suspend the company Evraz Plc from the FTSE100 (10/03/2022 11:00); in order to protect investors pending clarification of the impact of the UK sanctions.
This rationale and reason for suspension was to wait for further clarification, regarding these sanctions.
These sanctions appear to have been done without confirmation and seem to be politically driven decision, especially noting a number of days of inactivity.
There are numerous media outlets reporting that Evraz Plc is a company owned by Roman Abramovich and 'MAY' produce tanks - clearly Roman Abramovich does not ‘own’ Evraz Plc, for a start if he was I would be unable to purchase shares within the company, he is a shareholder in the company.
Clearly the production of tanks has come from a vague and without substance comments from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The implications of this inaccurate and unsubstantiated media news flows, and suspension, is that there are genuine shareholders now at risk of being significantly financially disadvantaged.
Evraz Plc is a London Registered FTSE100 company, therefore, there are a range of assurance that should offer.
I also query why the decision to sanction Roman Abramovich, was it because members of parliament and/or Officers with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and/or their associates had interests within Evraz Plc which needed to be disposed of first, prior to the sanction and subsequent FCA Suspension.
Based on the suspension clearly being without clear substantiated evidence, Roman Abramovich not owning Evraz and the strong denial from Evraz Plc surrounding the aiding of the production of tanks and aiding with the war effort (Evraz Plc RNS Number : 4044E, 10 March 2022), I am looking for your support to request the FCA immediately lift the suspension placed on Evraz Plc.
Failure to do so could set a dangerous precedent where any company could be immediately suspended if they are alleged to ‘may’ have aided the war effort, i.e. who has provided food or supplies to the Russian Army could have the same treatment.
Such precedent 'may' 'potentially' impact the trust and confidence investor have in FTSE100 companies and the FCA.
Yep and no amount of deramping will matter because it will just reopen and then their will be a mega short squeeze, as the mates will be told in advance and shares will be snapped up REKT!!!!!!
Add any company that may have provided munitions, supplies, fuel, etc to the soldiers - if McDonalds and Coke hadnt pulled out do you think would have suspended them, just in case Putin had a Burger and Coke
This SP, once suspension is lifted, will rise and rise alot
The uncertainty surrounding it will be removed and people will buy in to a very successful cash rich company
The decision to suspend was driven by politics, the delay was clearly people in the treasury knowing their mates had shares in Evr which needed to be offloaded first, and then done as politics/PR took over.
The reason to suspend EVR was because of tanks, ignoring the fact it doesnt make tanks, just a simple 'MAY', well I 'may' make tanks too, doesnt mean I do.
So, that is why EVR and their lawyers will be going for this and looking to get suspension lifted.
But when done, the SP will go up and fast - likewise POLY (although totally different circumstances).
Lets just hope the war is resolved quick, but it is concerning how fast governments US/UK are willing to do power grabs, US especially
Out of interest, were the shorters unable to close their position's also
@phildon
You invested in AVON and you talking about people dying?
You literally invested in a company made to help it
If you are investing in shares, why are you doing so?
GREED?
Tell me it is not so. Why else do people invest?
Owwww we have no choice now!
Just reading rationale of Abramovich sanction "......which includes potentially supplying steel to the Russian military which may have been used in the production of tanks". This is regarding Evraz.
There was me in thinking the Media have been belittling the Russian army and their equipment, with research stating it was old, etc. So do they have new tanks or old tanks - propaganda on steroids on both sides
Anyway, back to bitcoin, less volatile than these FTSE100 shares
No choice lol
Man this share is more wild than bitcoin
Do think it is difficult for some to understand
Abramovich holds 30%, if he has sold, TR1 will be issued soon. Links gone - positive from PR
If, however, he has held, 30% of the float is now locked in, which it already was. No one will be selling that soon. Price volatality currently is retail poo ing their pants on every 1p move and traders. this SP is as likely now, because of reduced float, to jump 30% as it is to crash 30%. In 3 to 6 months time, hoping for a peaceful outcome, <80p will be seen as a gift!
When sanctions are removed, which they will, he has to much money for politicians to not be interested, expect that special dividend! (like I said <80p will be seen as a gift!)
