somtam - I don't think you would be able to access any dividence from the SIPP - also unless you really need the dividends (in which case you should perhaps not be investing in an ISA) then it makes more sense to leave the dividends inside the ISA as that is effectively a way of increasing the amount you are able to put into the ISA each year.

Headancer - it's one of those rules that is tilted in the favour of Market Makers. Why ? Because they wrote the rules. Why do I analyse all the trades each day - to level the playing field a little.

Indeed cindercone, and now we have Icarus turning up to suggest that small shareholders can somehow become bigger shareholders by selling and then buying back at lower prices. Sounds easy huh ? How come everyone doesn't do this ?

Firstly you need to be able to predict the future - is 48p going to be the top this time, or 49p, or 45p or have the MMs decided to play fair or have they run out of cheap shares to sell this time around ?

Secondly he also fails to explain who exactly those traders are going to be buying back from - ahh yes no doubt another small shareholder who will have perhaps been spooked into selling by a manipulated drop in share price. How delightful, a game of shaft your neighbour.

The attempts to drive a wedge between large and small shareholders is doomed to fail, because it doesn't matter what your stake is, everyone here can see how the fundamentals of this company far outclass any temporary share price manipulation.

gkb47 - there is of course the interesting correspondence between the number 3,461,496 which is the number of shares you would have left after selling 1,259,595 from a block of 4,721,091

and some of the end day auction offers: 3,269,291at 42.3p and 191,805 at 38p = 3,461,096

They are the same to within 400 shares. Might a MM with a short position have been unexpectedly landed with a big block of 4.72M shares (not from their tame seller), quickly managed to sell on 1.26M of them but then chose to flog the rest dirt cheap at the end of the day to try and drive the price back down to try and close their short again at sub 40p (i.e. where we have been pretty much straight since the 21st).

Does this seem implausible ?

gkb - yep I mentioned these in the trade reported of the 27th Dec. The accumulation line was at 44.15 at the time so the 4.7M looks like a sell whilst the 1.26M looks like it could be a Buy.

Imagine a MM bought 4.7M shares from a PI then managed to sell on 1.26M of they - they would have 3.46M left - so strange how we then have large trades appearing in the end of day auction of 3.167M and 3.269M when I've never seen anything that large before in the end day auction.

Seaside - the problem was that the previous field tests of material did not test for vanadium and only measured surface hardness so they were easily fooled by rebar that had only been heat treated. Vanitec worked with the chinese authorities to develop a field test that actually tested for Vanadium - no doubt it will take some time for this testing regime to be fully rolled out and the inspectors brought up to speed on any new testing equipment. However after that I expect that the rules should be rigidly enforced. Why not make higher strength steel for only a small additional cost ? Why not keep out of jail ?

Faramog - that is all power used for transportation and heating etc - just electrical power is about 25% of this so only 125 kWh per day, or roughly 5kW all through the day. Remember that this calculation that is done per person in the country for everything that goes on in the country, not just in your house, so domestic consumption may be only 1/5th of this again:-

1kW would cost 13p per hour, or £3 a day. Just over £1000 a year. This is roughly in line with the quoted numbers of 750-1000 per 4-5 bedroom household.

The point is that talking about 'households' is nonsense - you have to also add in what the people in those households do when they are out of the house, and the costs of feeding them, and transporting them on their summer holidays, and making the cement for the houses that keep needing to be built, and the schools and hospitals that fill their heads with ideas and remove the bits that aren't working.

The reason governments and electricity companies are constantly banging on about 'this windfarm, or that power station, will power X numbers of households' is that it overstates the impact of what they are doing but yet allows them to claim they are using numbers 'that the public can understand'.

You can read about this all for yourself in 'Sustainable Energy without the Hot Air' which is a very well known book and a straightforward read.

However the per household is particular misleading one - what is the average 'household' in the US, the UK, India, etc ? How many households do you think are in the UK, do single occupancy flats count, what about industrial plants that are running overnight, etc.

A better measure is energy consumption per day per person. Sustainable energy without the hot air (Fig 18.4) shows US is 250 kWh per day per person, UK 125 kWh per day per person and Hong Kong 80 kWh per day per person. This includes transportation and industrial energy use as well as electrical energy consumption (which may only be 25% of the total). If you are going to decarbonise other parts of the economy - eg electric vehicles, heat pumps instead of burning carbon then you need to think about electricity consumption increasing not just staying as it is.

The bottom line is that a UK 'household' of 4 people currently uses 500 kWh of energy per day - that is approximately 21 kW continuously, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If you only think about current electricity consumption then it might only be 5kW continuously.

Thus 1 GW will currently only supply 200,000 x 4-person homes not a million - in future it may be less than 100,000.
