My largest holding (% wise) is NVDA at 3% portfolio. This is followed by MSFT, ASML and VW. All exceed 2%.

Nothing would induce me to invest in TSLA as Musk is a liability. AMZN and WMT have been in my portfolio. FWIW I am a fan of pharmaceuticals, financials, and venture capital trusts. Geographically am inclined towards India and S America through IT’s focussing on manufacturing and infratructure

driftking27, you are so far off the mark it is amusing. My portfolio started in 1979, the first holding was Shell Transport and Trading. I have achieved average compound growth of 12.87% over this period including a loss last year of over 22%. My average bargain these days is £25,000 and RIO represents 0.5% portfolio - it was 2% portfolio during last year but I received a substantial inheritance following the death of my father. The quantity held has remained unaltered.

Whether we like it or not, mining activities will continue for as long as the food chain needs transport, communication needs copper and buildings require concrete.

That I have picked duffers in the past and taken losses is sensible. I invest the proceeds in businesses where not only I expect to recover those losses but also profit from my decision. The investment decisions I am making now are very different from those over 40 years ago. Once I retire, I need my savings to be of sufficient amount to last 30 years. I also fully intend to gift most of it to my children in as efficient a way as possible.

driftking27, the domestic punter may wish to try to time entry or exit in their dealings with technical analysis (TA), but the financial community are rather more interested in facts such as those presented in the financial reports as well as other statements issued from time to time that hold bearing on the prospects for the company.

Geo-political influence can have a structural influence on the share price as we have seen with the recent news from Chile. The best that TA can do is show graphically when the best chances WERE to buy and COULD have sold. The decision that I made to buy shares in RIO in the quantity that I have was influenced by my desire for exposure to the mining sector and limited by cash in my portfolio. When the benefit of owning shares in RIO (or any other quoted company for that matter) ceases to be compelling for ME and MY ambition, then I will dispose of my holding at the best price.

I would prefer that I sell and bank proceeds at profit but if I need to take a loss, rather than try and recover paper losses by adding more money into the same company expecting to not only recover the paper loss but to make greater profits, experience has shown this to be usually unwise. I will generally look to invest whatever proceeds are recovered in a different enterprise. Besides, there are tax advantages for taking capital losses to apply against future gains (outside efficient wrapper).

I doubt that any investor will declare the quantity of shares held, may not even be accurate in the information and actually, why not mind your own business?

Heath23, I last contributed to this board a few years ago, was appalled with the arrogance, contempt and twaddle posted by Haggis designed only to buff the case for maintaining investment in this enterprise. Although I filtered him and many others with such extreme and implausible opinion, having read most other contributions in that time have provided me with a pretty good idea of the prospects for AFC.

I believe it will survive but be a very different beast from that which I felt was offered when I dipped my toe in the water with a buy of 30,000 shares.

Your criticism of Garonne is quite wrong IF he is in security as it is quite clear to me that you know nothing about the subject. Security, in a computing environment requires a methodical and factual evaluation based with total calm. In the event of a breach of security there is potential for panic coupled with the pressure to identify, isolate and contain threat, neutralise it and put measures in place to prevent recurrance.

On a financial bullettin board. Garonne identifies with clarity threats and potential resolution, yet many seem to believe his analysis to be the threat. Time to get real as Garonne is probably the most articulate contributor to this thread and, I warrant is a holder of shares and thus genuinely concerned. I too am underwater with my holding, probably a fraction of others held at an average of slightly under 40p. I do hold shares exceeding 100,000 but fewer than 1m, am not part of the "telegram" group, whatever that might be. Both Garonne and Desertwolf in whatever guise may appear to have an agenda, but theirs in one that EVERY investor should have if they are truly concerned for their investment.

Well, I have held these for a fair old time and have rounded my holding up with a buy in an ISA. This is structured for capital growth and HIGH risk. Seems to me to be a good point to buy but this is certainly not investment advice.

Have added a few more today taking advantage of the dip in price. Not the best price, but I am content with the decision.

Having recently added to my holding, it is dispiriting to see capital evaporate even if a paper loss. We are in an age of communication and progression will, I am sure, not only broaden in its scope but the pace of progress will accellerate.

This could see a consolidation in terms of the players at the cutting edge, but opportunity for growth through acquisition. I remain optimistic that my goal for capital growth for my portfolio will be achieved with my strategy based on high risk investment.

I note that the number of business insolvencies continues to increase with 2,457 filings in March. Odd that the share price should continue its southbound trend. Rather ruins my logic based approach to picking winners. (eg, buying shares in carpet companies after flooding)

It is simply an Open Holding Disclosure form which is required to be published when there is a takeover and shows the material interest from institutions. While an interest exceeding 3% is notifiable, holdings below are not and provide useful information to all shareholders, the offerree and takeover panel.

Well, just as well that I did not sell back in Feb; I have taken some off the table today to bank a decent profit in SIPP.

FWIW, I have bought another small tranche last month and again this. There is the niggling worry from comments made by the Fed for a recession in US, but with the early indications that inflation is starting to come down, it might provide sufficient incentive for maybe just one more interest rate rise in US, UK and possibly 2 more rises in Europe. My suspicion is that although investors are jittery, the worst is probably behind us now and 2023 marks a good time to pay greater heed to smaller companies rather than the behemoths that have provided some shelter in very turbulent waters.

Hopefully we all benefit from different opinions. FWIW, I like contributions, whether in print, broker notes or private investors on public boards that are bearish. I may not agree with them but occasionally it reveals something I may have missed or not fully considered. I also like to average up rather than down. The decision to buy some months ago and to add recently has been advantageous.

With a new tax year effective shortly, especially with the taxation changes that are harsh, it does provide opportunity to crystallise some losers and transfer cash into ISA for the advantage it affords. Of course, I have a few losers in ISA wrapper which can be sold and the proceeds re-invested.

Seems that my buy order was dealt this week for a chunk of shares. Time will determine if an act of folly or wisdom.

TimWilding, even if the war in Ukraine ends tomorrow, arms stocks remain depleted accross NATO and advances in weaponry will see new “products” launched. Defence of a nation is a primary duty for parliament.

Provided that there is a willing buyer and seller at current prices, both should believe that they are making brilliant decisions. It is the same with journalist interpretation of financial information.
