any of you read the article in the Telegraph business section today about oil and renewables? It's very interesting and is a good overview. (please don't ask me to cut and paste,I barely know how turn my computer on)

Brexit will have absolutely no impact upon the relentless rise of alternative and renewable energy. To think otherwise is to completely fail to understand the zeitgiest. The move is already happening; it's gathering pace and is unstoppable.

You've misunderstood what I was saying Frankie. I wasn't referring to the work done by our two experts, but rather I was damning the whole point of forecasting and business modelling and specifically the reliance placed upon it. Experience has led me to be deeply sceptical and jaundiced on this issue.

I genuinely admire the work you two put into this and I've no doubt it assists people with their understanding. However, it does rather remind me of being forced to put together 5 and 10 year business plans when looking for financial backing. As any businessman will tell you, they can barely predict with any accuracy the next 5 or 10 weeks, let alone years. Countless futile hours and vast amounts of money are spent on this sort of thing and every last bit of it is an utter waste of time. An entire consultancy industry has been constructed around this nonsense and is so brilliantly described by David Graeber and his "Bullshit Job" theory. I know it's necessary, but that doesn't detract from the fact it's all utter tosh.

One other thing about Faure Walker; he was a funny little man, irascible, excitable and charming in equal measure. An Old Etonian and very bright. Not only did he do the WPP funding, he also engineered Jimmy Gulliver's acquisition of Safeway, which was also one of the largest fund raises ever. He was recognised as one of the best deal makers in the City. I guess he'd be in his early 70's now, but I'm sure he'll be a damn good NED for the new company.

Absolutely right...he's far too shrewd for that and will easily be able to give Sorrell a run for his money.

The current non-exec chairman was a friend of my brother's. He's very smart and has been hugely successful. Many moons ago, I used to work with the incoming NED, Rupert Faure Walker. He was responsible for raising the cash for WPP's acquisition of JWT, which at the time was one of the largest fund raises ever. He and another colleague (who is now FD of a FTSE 100 company) were also responsible for devising the first and highly controversial remuneration package for Sorrell. The final piece in the jigsaw will be if Richard Oldworth, Sorrell in-house PR man for many years, also joins the team. He is a friend and is one of the best practioners in the city. I've met Sorrell a few times (I played cricket against him) He's not remotely likeable, but is incredibly driven...even on the cricket pitch. This will be all about whether the market believes he's still got in in him and whether he's capable of mastering the New World Order of advertising and PR. Personally, I've no doubt he has a good few years left yet.

Having invested in BCN (with more to come), it seems unlikely they'd want to do anything which would harm their investment.

Maverick, I was in touch with them regularly throughout the period and eventually said I wished to lodge a formal complaint. The matter was then referred to their complaints team who subsequently dealt with the matter.

I have now received a full apology from HL and �100 in compensation. I pointed out to them that had they been honest and admitted their mistake and had not sought to shift the blame,people would have been understanding. This is such an easy business practice and yet so many financial services companies attempt to lie their way out of problems...do they never learn? Anyway, HL eventually got there and we can move on.

Aside from the minor detail, I think the general thrust of our discussion was more to do with who actually has de facto control of what happens and this has been an area ongoing of debate. As KM admits, the trade sale route is very limited indeed and not just because of the first right of refusal point. The fact is no one would buy it knowing that the majority partner will only develop it in accordance with their own timelines. Personally, I just wish they'd just get on and develop the whole shooting match.

Obs,I recall having a discussion about the first right of refusal issue with you some months ago (I think it was you, apologies if not) At the time I suggested this was the case and that it limited the exit routes for KDNC. Seems your CEO agrees.
