The Mingomba copper mine project, commonly known as the Konkola West project, is a joint venture between the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH) that holds a 20% stake in the project with KoBold Metals holding 80% stake.

In a podcast last month, Kurt House, CEO of KoBold Metals gave a brief insight into the company's medium-term intentions for the Mingomba project. KH said the odds are high that KoBold would bring in a partner (major miner?) who would contribute the necessary capabilities and capital to turn Mingomba into a production mine. To achieve this KoBold would sell off a portion of its 80% ownership in Mingomba as part of the deal so that the company does not have to spend any more of its own money on developing the mine and also enjoy a share of the future cashflow from the mine. He added it would be at least two years before KoBold brings in a partner for Mingomba. So, that's in a nutshell KoBold's intentions for Mingomba. KH also said KoBold expects Mingomba to be worth in the order of billions of dollars in the future.

Likewise, I don't expect KoBold to turn Disko into a production mine on their own. The odds are high that KoBold would want to bring in a partner (major miner?) for Disko as well. I think the odds are high that 80M will also have to give up a portion of its Disko ownership to the partner. First thing first though, where is that Disko update?

KoBold Metals ​has raised US$491 million in its latest funding round, a Series D round held on 20 September 2024. The SEC filing confirms the following:

KoBold managed to raise 93% of the total offered amount of US$526,863,257. Since 2019, KoBold has executed four funding rounds, the latest being its largest in terms of money raised. These forecasts indicate that the Group and parent company, in order to meet their operational objectives, and meets their expected liabilities as they fall due, WILL BE REQUIRED TO RAISE ADDITIONAL FUNDS WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS." - Unquote

Tonypeters - I am so glad that you are keeping a close watch on Disko and thank you for posting the project page. One thing I noticed on the page was that the Disko total licence area is stated as 2,776 km² when it should read 3,015 km². The RNS on 29 April 2024 confirmed that Nikkeli had been granted a new Mineral Exploration Licence (MEL) 2024-30 and the licence covered an area of 112 km², increasing Nikkeli's total licence area to 3,015 km².

CrustyPete - You ask when the Disko update is due to come out. The short answer is I do not know of a definitive ​​timescale. In early September I was able to establish that there would be three RNS items, followed by Disko not long after that. I had no idea of the subjects for the three RNS items or when they were going to come out except that the three items would come out first and then Disko. Now that we have had the three RNS items on the 9th, 23rd and 30th of September, I am expecting the next RNS to be the Disko update. I do not know when the update will be coming out but my guess is this month.

As for the detailed analysis you have presented on Disko (7 Oct 2024 at 9:33), all that I would say is that if you want to make judicious use of your time, please wait for the update on the project.

I have this feeling that anyone currently shorting this stock is "very" likely to get barbecued when the Disko update comes out.

Rach - Here is a challenge to test our convictions. Before I spell out the challenge, I want to state our positions:

1. You have predicted that there would be an equity fundraise in 2024.

2. I have predicted that there would not be an equity fundraise in 2024.

Do you have the guts and confidence to put your prediction to the test? If you are, here is the challenge. The person who gets their prediction wrong ​agrees to stop posting here after 31 December 2024. I have the guts and confidence to accept the challenge. Are you? IvRoche - 80M will need to raise further funds within the next 12 months, according to the Interim Results released on 30 September 2024. The Interim Results. however, did not spell out what route(s) might be used for raising the funds. In my opinion, the potential routes for fundraising are (1) An equity issue (2) External funding, for example, European Groups (3) Asset sale (4) JV with a partner. You yourself have pointed out these potential funding routes in your post. I value your contribution here because your posts are balanced and rational.

Rach - It's you who has predicted an equity fundraise in 2024 but can't say how confident you are of your prediction. That certainly shows a lack of confidence in your prediction.

Here is my prediction and my confidence level. There will NOT be an equity fundraise in 2024 and I am 100% confident. Let's see who is right on 31 December 2024.
