As there is uncertainty over the judgement, there is room to discuss. I acknowledged the risk and gave an example of why I still hold. That does require explanation. If it was simple, then people would have already dumped this share.

Lti also reminded me that the Lloyds dividend (combined with the buybacks) means Lloyds are offering double digit total returns. I hold a little L&G and also M&G, but I am very overweight on Lloyds as I think it has much better growth potential. Also with the others, its worth remembering - whats the use of a 10% dividend if the SP tanks?

The car scam is the biggest blot on the Lloyds landscape and it might well cost us billions. But I am confident in Lloyds ability to generate cash and see it off, while still growing the dividend and continuing buybacks. If it doesn't cost us billions then the future is very rosy indeed. The Supreme Court judgement is hoped for sometime in July. Best of luck.

Completely agree with this, petitioning the king is the only way to change a system where the people occupying power have massive disincentive to change it themselves. We might need to retain a system where representatives are voted in, but there should be massive constraints on who can stand - ie proven ability and no conflicts of interest. That will count out most of the current lot. This system will require wages that tempt the best people away from industry and academia.

Imported coal has much higher embedded emissions from having to be transported across the world. It is also likely that the health and safety of the miner is a lot lower than if we dug it up in the UK. I dont support importing coal but I do agree with the long term push to reduce our reliance on coal. Not mining domestic coking coal for a steel blast furnace which is critical infrastructure we need to maintain does seem to me like a very stupid decision.

I figured that at £1.85 M&G has a good chance of staying with double digit returns. I took the money from my part sale of lloyds at results day and bought back half of them; spent the rest on M&G. Probably should have paid it off the mortgage but decided to put it back into my ISA before year end.

Im sorry you'll have to explain it to me again Im afraid - double digit returns, a dividend of 5% ish plus what? Or do you mean the 12.3% return on tangible equity, 14% without the car scam provision?

Lloyds is still far and away my biggest holding but that makes me nervy about a big drop if the Supreme Court goes badly. I still have confidence in the long term cash generation and buyback strategy.

Yes, there are lots of higher rates of return on offer, some look chancier than others. I bought into M&G recently as they are offering double the % return of Lloyds. Surprised you dont keep some back for the longer term growth prospects though.
