HOUSTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - BP Plc began the plannedoverhaul of a 65,000 barrel per day (bpd) gasoline-producingfluidic catalytic cracking unit at its 405,000 bpd refinery inWhiting, Indiana, on Monday, according to a source familiar withoperations at the refinery.
Unit 600 was shut down over the weekend in preparation forthe work, the source said on Monday. BP was planning to beginthe work this week, sources familiar with refinery operationshad told Reuters on Friday.
Prices for CBOB gasoline rose 7.5 cents a gallon on Fridayin the Chicago market on anticipation BP was near the start ofthe work.
A BP spokesman declined to discuss operations at therefinery.
BP has been planning the overhaul of the 600 unit for morethan a year. The overhaul is expected to take at least sixweeks.
The Whiting refinery's 110,000 bpd 500 unit is expected toremain in operation while the work on the smaller of the twoFCCUs is under way. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by David Gregorio and AmandaKwan)
