UK watchdog confirms continued 'high' safety of Covid-19 vaccines

Fri, 05th Feb 2021 12:56

(Sharecast News) - Ongoing safety checks by the UK regulator confirmed the safety of Covid-19 vaccines.
Routine monitoring revealed that only 3 out of every 1,000 people inoculated reported "suspected" side effects, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said.

Of those, the "vast majority" were "mild" and similar to those experienced with the majority of vaccines, including for the seasonal flu shot.

"The safety profile of the vaccines remains positive and the benefits continue to far outweigh any known side-effects," The MHRA said.

"These [symptoms] include sore arms and mild 'flu-like' symptoms, which reflect a normal immune response to vaccines and are short-lasting."

Friday's report from the UK's independent medicines regulator was the first of what would be regular Covid-19 vaccine safety reports.
