UK GAS-Prices fall as domestic production ramps up, lower carbon prices

Thu, 08th Jul 2021 10:31

LONDON, July 8 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices fell
on Thursday morning as UK domestic production started to ramp up
after outages and European carbon prices declined.

* The within-day contract was down 0.40 pence
at
81.50 p/therm, and the August contract was trading
2.17 pence lower at 77.03 p/therm by 0925 GMT.

* Prices have fallen the past two days, after soaring
earlier this
week and last week.

* UK Continental Shelf production is expected to ramp up
from
Friday after the end of maintenance at Greater Britania Area
which had lowered capacity since May, Refinitiv gas analysts
said.

* "Barrow North returned today after yesterday's unplanned
maintenance and is currently flowing at 5 million cubic
metres/day. Carbon price moves may again provide some impact,"
said Iryna Sereda, gas analyst at Refinitiv.

* Britain's gas system was slightly under-supplied by 0.6
mcm,
with demand forecast at 146.4 mcm and supply at 145.8 mcm/day,
National Grid data showed.

* The day-ahead contract was up 0.35 pence at
81.35
p/therm.

* On the bullish side, peak wind power generation is
forecast at
3.4 gigawatts (GW) on Thursday, falling to 1.1 GW on Friday,
Elexon data showed.

* Only one liquified natural gas (LNG) tanker is expected in
Britain in the coming weeks.

* Oil prices fell for a third day on Thursday after the
collapse
this week of talks among major producers.

* The Dutch gas for August delivery fell 0.96
euro to
32.04 euros per megawatt hour.

* The benchmark Dec-21 EU carbon contract was down
1.18
euros at 52.00 euros per tonne.

* The benchmark Dec-21 British carbon contract was
down
0.50 pounds at 43.40 pounds a tonne.
