Oxford Instruments, which supplies tools for industry and research, is leading the risers on news that it has been selected to supply 58 tonnes of superconducting wire to ITER at a value in excess of £30m. ITER is a joint international research and development project seeking alternative energy through fusion power. This order, which is subject to contract, has been agreed by 'Fusion for Energy', the European procurement agency for ITER based in Barcelona.The group said the first deliveries will be towards the end of the current financial year, though the effect on this year's trading is expected to be modest.Data search software specialist Autonomy spectacular growth continues with the firm boasting record revenues and profits in the second quarter of 2009. Revenues in the three months to 30 June rose to $195.2m from $125.7m a year earlier, while adjusted profit before tax, which excludes various charges, climbed to $89.6m from $50.8m. The adjusted gross profit margin eased to 88% from 91% reflecting the effects of the integration of recent acquisition Interwoven.
