TechMARK movers: Record orders for Oxford Instruments

Tue, 15th Jun 2010 13:28
High technology instruments manufacturer Oxford Instruments is the best performer in TechMARK today following its figures for the year to March 2010.Revenues rose 2% to £211.5m and underlying pre-tax profit was 7% higher at £11.9m. A final dividend of 6p a share takes the total for the year to 8.4p a share. Order intake during the year was a record £250m. The research markets are robust and industrial markets are recovering to pre-recessionary levels. Chief executive Jonathan Flint says he is looking for acquisitions to help to increase the rate of revenue growth for the group. Semiconductors manufacturer CML Microsystems also reported figures for the year to March 2010 and they were also well received. The second half performance was much stronger than the first half. The loss was sharply reduced from £2.09m to £386,000 but this underestimates the underlying position. Amortisation of capitalised development costs exceeded the costs capitalised last year by £1m. Adding that back, would make CML profitable. This is shown by the strong cash generation during the year. Net debt was reduced from £3.87m to £2.09m. Cenkos expects this to be halved to £1m by March 2011. CML also has a property worth £441,000 that it wants to sell plus investment properties of £3.85m. CML supplies chips for AIS marine positioning equipment, two-way radios and the controller chips for flash memory cards. Cenkos forecasts a £1.1m profit in 2010-11. There will be a vote at the AGM on whether CML should transfer to the standard listing of the Main Market. If the resolution is passed CML will drop out of TechMARK.
