Symphony Environmental says d2w products compliant with EU regulations

Tue, 08th Jul 2025 13:23

(Alliance News) - Symphony Environmental Technologies PLC on Tuesday said it sees no reason why d2w biodegradable plastics should not be sold in every member-state of the European Union after receiving a clarification from the Environmental Protection Agency in the Republic of Ireland.

The Hertfordshire, England-based biodegradable plastic technology developer said, in a clarification of an announcement last month, that the Irish agency has confirmed that d2w biodegradable plastics are compliant with the EU directive.

The plastics are also compatible with the EU plastic strategy, Symphony added.

"Our announcement of the 23 June repeated verbatim the approval we had received from Ireland, but the heading was technically incorrect," the company noted.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Laurier said: "We are very pleased to receive this further guidance and clarification from the EPA in the Republic of Ireland. Having now clarified this important issue, we see no reason why d2w products should not now be sold and used in every member-state of the EU.

"We are confident that it is better for Europe's environment for plastic to be made so that it quickly biodegrades leaving no toxic residues, instead of lying or floating around for decades and creating microplastics."

Shares in Symphony Environmental Technologies were up 4.5% at 12.80 pence in London on Tuesday afternoon.
