Spire Healthcare Wins Permission For GBP60 Million Nottingham Hospital

Mon, 16th Mar 2015 12:57

LONDON (Alliance News) - Spire Healthcare Group PLC Monday said it plans to invest GBP60 million in developing a new hospital in Nottingham, England, after receiving planning permission.

In a statement, Spire Healthcare said that the hospital is planned to include 56 patient beds and an outpatient area with 20 consulting rooms, among a range of other facilities, such as a dedicated suite to treat tumours and cancer, space for Magnetic resonance imaging and computerised tomography scanning, as well as an outdoors section to help with physiotherapy.

The GBP60 million investment is part of a broader capital expenditure plan already announced by the group. Work on the hospital is due to begin later in 2015, according to Spire Healthcare, with completion expected in the later stages of 2016 on in the early months of 2017.

Spire said it intends for the services to be open to all patients, including those funded by the UK's National Health Service.

The healthcare group said the facility is expected to result in the creation of about 250 jobs in the local area, as well as "wider" economic benefits.

"A new hospital development in Nottingham would give Spire the opportunity to make a significant addition to its network and reflects our vision to be recognised as a world class healthcare business," Neil McCullough, development director at Spire, said in a statement.

"Spire has had extensive engagement with medical professionals in the area and the consistent feedback has been in support of the project and, more importantly, the chance to work with Spire Healthcare. We believe that this new hospital will be a significant addition to the medical care offering in the region," McCullough added.

Spire shares were flat at 329.90 pence in early afternoon trading on Monday in London.
