HOUSTON, June 27 (Reuters) - Shell's 227,900 barrel-per-day (bpd) Norco, Louisiana refinery is scheduled to return to normal production by Thursday, people familiar with plant operations said on Tuesday.
Multiple units shut down on Saturday after a power outage caused by a malfunction at an Entergy Corp substation, Shell said on Sunday. A brief fire was triggered by the outage. No injuries were reported.
Shell spokesperson Curtis Smith declined to comment.
The outage on Saturday caused the release valves on the 240,000-bpd DU-5 crude distillation unit (CDU) at the refinery to open, and static electricity set off a fire that was quickly extinguished, people familiar with plant operations said.
Shell began restarting the Norco refinery on Saturday, the sources said.
Norco is Shell's sole refinery in the United States. DU-5 is the only CDU at the Norco refinery.
