Mon, 07th Mar 2016 08:48

LONDON (Alliance News) - Waste management company Shanks Group PLC on Monday said it has appointed Colin Matthews as non-executive chairman, to replace outgoing Chairman Adrian Auer with effect from April 1.

Matthews was previously chief executive of Heathrow Airport Holdings, the operator of London's Heathrow airport, formerly known as BAA. He also was CEO of water company Severn Trent PLC and recruitment consultancy Hays Group PLC.

Matthews is currently a non-executive director of platinum and chemicals firm Johnson Matthey PLC and chairman of Highways England.

"We are delighted to welcome Colin to Shanks. Following a comprehensive search, the board unanimously agreed that Colin was the outstanding preferred candidate. His significant experience leading companies such as Heathrow Airport, Severn Trent and Hays Group will bring an important fresh perspective and his insights will help Shanks in the next stage of its development," Senior Independent Director Eric van Amerongen said in a statement.

Shares in Shanks Group were trading up 1.2% at 82.00 pence on Monday morning.
