Optos Shares Rise As It Unveils Latest Imaging Device

Mon, 20th Oct 2014 07:47

LONDON (Alliance News) - Medical retinal imaging company Optos PLC Monday said it had unveiled California, the second device from its next generation ultra-widefield imaging platform, at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Chicago on Saturday.

In a statement, the company said the device provides greater imaging functionality and expands its product portfolio for the ophthalmology market. Details of its launch will be announced in the coming weeks with product sales and shipments expected to commence in the first half of 2015, it said.

"The additional functions available in this product such as indocyanine green angiography gives ophthalmologists a more comprehensive array of imaging tools in one machine enabling them to see and treat retinal pathology more effectively. Unveiling California at the AAO meeting on schedule was a tremendous achievement and we are extremely excited by the opportunities this product brings to the business," Optos Chief Executive Roy Davis said in a statement.

The California product includes the company's newest imaging modality: indocyanine green angiography and includes all current colour imaging modalities, autofluorescence and fluorescein angiography.

Indocyanine green angiography is used for imaging the choroidal vasculature which is key in the diagnosis, management and treatment of certain conditions such as neovascular age-related macular degeneration and disorders with choroidal neovascular membranes.

Optos shares were up 0.4% at 206.62 pence early Monday.
