Nanoco Welcomes Rejection Of Cadmium In Quantum Dots

Wed, 20th May 2015 13:38

LONDON (Alliance News) - Nanoco Group PLC Wednesday welcomed the European Parliament's decision to vote against an extension for an exemption to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive that would allow for the use of cadmium-containing quantum dots in Europe.

Quantum dots are nanocrystals made of semiconductor materials, which can be used in solar cells, LEDs and diode lasers. Nanoco's quantum dots do not contain cadmium - a heavy metal that is currently restricted under European environmental law.

"We are very pleased by this decision by the European Parliament and we would like to thank Members of the European Parliament for the time they have taken to understand the detail and implications of the proposed exemption," said Chief Executive Officer Michael Edelman in a statement.

Shares in Nanoco are trading down 0.7% at 104.00 pence Wednesday afternoon.
