M&S website suffers technical glitch, leaks customers' details

Wed, 28th Oct 2015 10:10

(ShareCast News) - Retailer Marks & Spencer was forced to temporarily suspend its website on Tuesday after customers reported that they had been able to see other people's details when they logged onto the site.On Wednesday, Marks insisted that this was merely as technical glitch, there had not been a third-party attack on the site and no financial data had been exposed."Due to a technical issue we temporarily suspended our website for a period last night," a spokeswoman for M&S said. She added that while customers may have been able to see the last four digits of other people's card details, they were encrypted so there was no security risk.On Tuesday, customers posted messages on the company's Facebook page alerting it to the fact they could see other customers' orders and payments details. The news comes less than a week after telecoms company TalkTalk suffered a cyber attack that put over 4m customers' details at risk.At 1020 GMT, M&S shares were down 1% at 507p.
