FTSE 250 movers: Cineworld leads risers while Ophir tumbles

Thu, 13th Aug 2015 14:04
(ShareCast News) - London's FTSE 250 was up slightly by Thursday afternoon as the markets cooled after the People's Bank of China said it would stop fiddling with the yuan. The index was up by 0.65% at 17550.78 at 1407 BST.Leading the risers was Cineworld Group, which reported a revenue rise off strong film releases and ticket takings from its acquisition Cinema City. Shares in the movie chain jumped by 5.56%.Close behind, online gaming company PlayTech rose by 4.59% after a strong note from Morgan Stanley. With shareholders voting on 19 August on the proposed £460m acquisition of Plus500 and the $105m acquisition of Ava Trade, MS analysts estimate that completion of both transactions would enhance EPS by circa 40% in 2016, leaving the shares trading on circa 9 times EV/EBITDA and around 10 times 2016's expected EPS.Michael Page International also rose, after reporting improved business across all its regions to achieve double digit gross profit growth. The recruitment firm was up by 3.80% after issuing a special dividend of 16p per share on top of an interim dividend of 3.6p per share.Shares in Ophir Energy led the fallers after reporting first half losses and slashing its capital expenditure. Shares in the energy company fell by 3.71%.WH Smith also fell 3.01% as the company was one of many stocks going ex-dividend, meaning the shares investors could no longer qualify for its latest dividend pay-out. The retailer was also in the news as it has been affected by a "mini-revolution" of passengers refusing to show boarding passes after being accused of using the information to claim back VAT and rarely passing on the savings.FTSE 250 - RisersCineworld Group (CINE) 579.00p +5.56%Playtech (PTEC) 911.00p +4.59%Just Eat (JE.) 410.80p +4.13%Rightmove (RMV) 3,763.00p +3.95%Ashmore Group (ASHM) 262.90p +3.83%Michael Page International (MPI) 547.00p +3.80%Fidessa Group (FDSA) 1,986.00p +3.65%Zoopla Property Group (WI) (ZPLA) 275.90p +3.64%Thomas Cook Group (TCG) 116.40p +3.56%Smith (DS) (SMDS) 414.90p +2.77%FTSE 250 - FallersOphir Energy (OPHR) 109.10p -3.71%WH Smith (SMWH) 1,515.00p -3.01%Euromoney Institutional Investor (ERM) 1,051.00p -2.95%Greene King (GNK) 842.00p -2.83%Lonmin (LMI) 39.61p -2.68%Premier Oil (PMO) 113.80p -2.48%Telecom Plus (TEP) 1,096.00p -2.14%Berkeley Group Holdings (The) (BKG) 3,407.00p -1.98%Card Factory (CARD) 351.10p -1.65%Tullow Oil (TLW) 217.80p -1.63% Wh Smith Playtech
