Cornish Metals fully installs first submersible pump

(Sharecast News) - Tin mine developer Cornish Metals announced the successful installation of the first submersible pump at the New Cooks Kitchen shaft on Tuesday.

The AIM-traded firm said the pump was lowered to a depth of 360 metres below surface, marking a significant milestone in the company's dewatering plans for the mine.

It said the installation of the submersible pump was a crucial step in its objective to initiate the dewatering process at the South Crofty mine later in the summer.

To complete the installation, the pump was connected and lowered using 120 three-metre-long steel pipes, which are suspended within the shaft specifically for the initial phase of dewatering.

Cornish Metals said the exercise was completed on time and safely, without any incidents.

"Work on the mine water treatment plant continues with 95% mechanical completion, and work is now focussed on the electrical and instrumentation installation," the Cornish Metals board said in its statement.

"It is anticipated that the plant commissioning will be completed later this summer and mine dewatering to commence immediately thereafter."

At 1324 BST, shares in Cornish Metals were down 6.45% at 10.29p.
