BT Appoints Clive Selley To Succeed Joe Garner As Openreach Head

Mon, 11th Jan 2016 09:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC said Monday it has appointed Clive Selley, currently chief information officer and chief executive officer of its BT Technology, Service and Operations business to head up its Openreach division, succeeding Joe Garner.

Garner is stepping down from the role to become chief executive officer of Nationwide Building Society.

BT said the handover will take place during the quarter. Selley's successor will be announced in "due course", the company said.

Selley takes up the role at a key time for the Openreach segment, which is responsible for the installation and upkeep of much of the UK's broadband connections, after the division's potential separation was put on the table by UK Telecoms regulator Ofcom as part of its ongoing review of digital communications. The result of this review is due to be announced early this year.

"I am honoured to have been asked to lead Openreach at this important point in its history. The huge investment it has made over the past decade has made the UK a broadband leader, and we need to build on those foundations by deploying fibre to further communities and by rolling out ultrafast broadband," said Selley in a statement.

"Customer service is a top priority of mine and I am committed to delivering further improvements by working closely with all industry partners who rely on our network to serve their customers," Selley added.

Shares in BT Group were down 0.1% at 465.15 pence Monday morning.
