(Alliance News) - Prime Minister Boris Johnson's bill to override a key provision in Britain's EU withdrawal agreement cleared another hurdle on Tuesday, as lawmakers approved its passage to the next stage despite strong opposition in Brussels.
Parliament's elected main house, the Commons, backed the UK Internal Market Bill after Johnson compromised with rebel lawmakers in his Conservative party by submitting an amendment that requires parliament to approve the overriding of the agreement.
The lawmakers approved the amendment without a formal vote.
The government said it will begin the report stage, allowing more detailed scrutiny by lawmakers, on Wednesday.
