LONDON (Alliance News) - Aquaculture biotechnology company AquaBounty Technologies Inc on Friday said its genetically-modified AquAdvantage Salmon has been approved by Health Canada for commercial sale.
In addition, AquaBounty said the Animal Feed Division of the Animal Health Directorate of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has determined feed ingredients derived from AquAdvantage Salmon do not present any livestock feed safety concerns in comparison to other feeds derived from permitted salmon for use in livestock feed in Canada.
"We are pleased to receive the approvals of the various authorities of Canada, which means we can produce, sell and eat our AquAdvantage Salmon in Canada. We thank the scientists in the Ministries of Health, Food Inspection and Fisheries of the Canadian Government for carrying out their assessments diligently and confirming the safety of our salmon for both the consumer and the environment," said AquaBounty Chief Executive Ronald Stotish.
