(Alliance News) - Versarien PLC on Monday said it has secured its first graphene order from the North American division of an undisclosed Japanese-headquartered company.
Versarien shares were trading 6.8% higher on Monday in London at 106.75 pence each.
The materials engineering company said this customer is an automotive components company that has operations in over 40 countries.
After initial graphene quality testing trials, the unnamed client has placed development orders for one kilogramme of each of Versarien's graphene nano platelets and Nanene.
Nanene is a few-layer graphene nano-platelet powder.
The customer's principle operations focus on leading-edge automotive materials and process development, Versarien said, and the development of next-generation, vehicle-related, information and communications technology.
"We are very pleased to have secured this order, our first from a Japanese headquartered company," said Versarien Chief Executive Neill Ricketts.
"We look forward to working with this customer to help them maximise the benefits the addition of our graphene can bring to a number of their products," added Ricketts.
