LONDON (Alliance News) - UK telecommunications industry regulator Ofcom said Thursday that Vodafone Group PLC had failed to meet 3G coverage obligations.
In 2010 the Government directed Ofcom to increase the obligation of telecommunication operators to cover 90% of where the UK population lives; EE Limited, Hutchinson 3G, Telefonica O2 U.K Limited and Vodafone agreed to reach this coverage obligation by a deadline of June 30.
Although EE, Three and 02 met this obligation, Vodafone fell 1.4% short of the requirement.
Ofcom has chosen not to take enforcement action against Vodafone, as Vodafone has put in place a plan to reach compliance levels by the end of 2013 by rolling out more mobile masts. Ofcom will closely monitor the implementation of this plan and reassess Vodafone's compliance in January 2014.
Shares in Vodafone were trading down 0.80 pence Thursday morning at 229.80 pence.
