FRANKFURT, April 17 (Reuters) - U.S. cable company LibertyGlobal is preparing a takeover offer for Germany'sKabel Deutschland, German magazine Manager Magazinreported.
By preparing a bid, Liberty Global wants to steal a march onUK-based telecommunications company Vodafone, which isalso interested in buying Kabel Deutschland, the monthlymagazine said in an excerpt of an article to be published onFriday.
Kabel Deutschland declined to comment on the report. LibertyGlobal was not immediately available for comment.
Shares in Kabel Deutschland jumped on the news and weretrading 5.6 percent higher at 74.21 euros ($97.44) by 0912 GMT.($1 = 0.7616 euros) (Reporting by Maria Sheahan; Editing by Victoria Bryan)
