Surgical Innovations launches new port access system

Mon, 21st Mar 2022 11:41

(Sharecast News) - Medical technology developer Surgical Innovations Group announced the launch of 'YelloPort Elite 5mm' on Monday - a new surgical port access system developed in partnership with CMR Surgical.

The AIM-traded firm said under the design agreement with CMR, it would supply the 'Resposable' item for each installed CMR Versius robotic system.

It said the YelloPort Elite 5mm product was designed specifically for CMR's Versius Robotic System, though it was "universal in nature" and could be used in combination with a wider range of laparoscopic instrumentation, including other robotic systems.

The device was designed to function with robotic instrumentation, addressing the need for high-quality cost-effective solutions within laparoscopy surgery, using its Resposable technology to meet those clinical needs.

YelloPort Elite 5mm received its CE mark in February, and would be available globally from April.

"We're delighted to partner with CMR Surgical, a fellow British medical device company focused on minimally invasive surgery, to develop this new surgical port access system," said chief executive officer David Marsh.

"Our Resposable products provide a high-quality hybrid instrument concept, with the clinical benefits of a small disposable element, reducing waste by at least 70% compared to fully disposable alternatives.

"The project with CMR also creates an opportunity to develop greater partnerships in robotic surgery and utilises our existing experience in access devices, instrumentation and flex technology."

At 0952 GMT, shares in Surgical Innovations were up 0.23% at 2.21p.
