LONDON (Alliance News) - SSE PLC said Tuesday that it completed the construction and commissioning of the 66 turbine/228 megawatt Stronelairg wind farm, located near Fort Augustus in Scotland.
With a total investment of around GBP350 million, SSE expects Stronelairg to be the final wind farm to be accredited under the renewables obligation.
The completion of Stronelairg takes SSE's onshore wind farm capacity to 2,143 megawatts, and its total renewable energy capacity to 3,955 megawatts.
SSE's wholesale director Martin Pibworth said: "To have completed Stronelairg ahead of schedule and on budget, despite the additional challenges associated with its altitude and the weather conditions experienced in the winter of 2017-2018, is a tribute to the skill and professionalism of the teams that designed, developed and built the wind farm. Its completion confirms SSE's position as the owner and operator of the most renewable energy capacity across the UK and Ireland."
SSE's shares were trading up 2.1% at 1,072.50 pence each on Tuesday.
